Next Lunchtime Legends gig

I don't have full details yet, but on Saturday 27th November the Lunchtime Legends will be playing a gig in the Adlington area, near Chorley.  This is slightly outside our usual area of operations, i.e. Southport, Crosby and, of course, Whitby in Yorkshire.  More details when I have them.

Whitby Legends gig

Our 19th annual Lunchtime Legends rock & roll session ("the premier fringe event of Folk Week") in the Elsinore on Flowergate, Whitby, at Wednesday lunch time had a set of 32 songs, probably the longest set during the whole of Folk Week, and we're not even booked to play! It was packed out as ever and seemed to go down a storm. A charming young girl was giving me nice smiles while I played and bought one of our CDs, so I asked her her name. She told me, and mentioned her age was: "Five and three quarters."

Our opening act was the excellent Jim Causley, who got into the spirit of things with songs he associated with his mother (he is a lot younger than us!). For a change we were joined by a bass player, Joe Gannet (aka Jez Lowe), who joined us to good effect, giving the sound a bass presence it sometimes lacks.

The Whitby Gazette gave us an excellent write-up, almost as much coverage as there was for the whole of Folk Week, which is slightly embarrassing.  People are already asking what we're going to do for the 20th, so no pressure there, then!

Next Legends gig

The next Lunchtime Legends gig will be our 19th annual rock & roll party in the Elsinore (pictured), Flowergate, Whitby in North Yorkshire on Wednesday 25 August. It's free, all are welcome, and it's at lunchtime. This gig is now noted as the premier fringe event during Whitby Folk Week and attracts many special guests from the folk festival anxious to strut their rock & roll stuff. Get there early for a seat, sup the delightful Cameron's Strongarm ruby ale and brace yourself for a couple of hours of high octane 50s and 60s rock & roll and pop. Accept no substitutes ~ these are the original and best Leg ends of rock & roll.

Haiti Gig Success

We played our fundraising gig for Haiti on Friday night at the Park Golf Club. It was a great atmosphere, with people up dancing and waving their arms in the air for 'Hi Ho Silver Lining'. We raised a total of £207. Thanks to everyone who helped make the evening a success.

I ended up leaving my PA and my car at the venue until the next day after I'd had a few post-gig pints of Thwaites Bomber. Our next gig is in Whitby next August in the Elsinore ~ the pub where it all began in 1992.

P.S. a late donation has increased the total to £213.
